Ethics Without Religion
Atheists may ground ethics in empathy, human welfare, reason, social cooperation, rights, consequences, virtue, or other philosophical traditions. Science can provide evidence about the effects of actions—for example, whether a policy reduces harm—but it does not by itself determine every moral value or obligation.
